Lydia Karpenko's practice encompasses objects, spaces, and artful experiments that examine mindful and intentional approaches to daily living.
Working with site-specific installations, ceramics and sculpture, she embraces ideas of the Slow Movement such as hand-made craftsmanship, quality versus quantity, and a thoughtful approach to making and design.
Lydia works on the border between art, craft, design, and architecture, bringing together tradition and modernity.
Through her art practice, she explores personal narratives and themes of home, displacement, memory, and human-nature connection.
Born in Kyiv, Ukraine and immigrating to Canada in her teens, Lydia is now based on Vancouver Island's West Coast, surrounded and deeply inspired by this area's unique natural beauty.
